A happy couple’s secret weapon

Our approach to couples’ therapy includes a thorough assessment of the couple relationship and integrates research-based interventions based on Gottman Couples Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT)

Gottman Statistics

Our couples’ therapy aligns with relationship theories that are evidence-based and developed from decades of research into adult attachment, the differences between happy and unhappy couples and human bonding. Dr. John Gottman has revolutionised the study of marriage. For nearly four decades he has conducted research on all facets of relationships, including parenting issues. At the Institute, in collaboration with Dr. Julie Schwartz Gottman, he developed an approach that not only supports and repairs troubled marriages and committed relationships, but strengthens happy ones. Dr Sue Johnson’s work on EFT based on 50 years of research into human bonding and 30 years of research from their lab into helping couples connect and thrive.

Couples Therapy Frequently Asked Questions

Couples who enter into therapy with us begin with an assessment process that then informs the therapeutic framework and intervention. Assessment involves a conjoint session, followed by individual interviews with each partner. Couples complete Gottman Relationship questionnaires and then receive detailed feedback on their relationship.
